The HHO Scam, Part II: “Examples”
Table of Contents for HHO Scam

I mentioned in my last post on this topic that I’ve not personally seen a working example of the HHO black-box. I find this odd, since there are claims of “many thousands” in service. (In addition, my brother works on cars for a living; he’s not come across one either.)
Apparently I’m not alone in this. There are, however, a lot of discussions where individuals claim they use HHO and get great results.
I want to talk about my Web research in this direction.
On sites that are skeptical about HHO (and similar), there are always “contrarian” posts which say something to the effect that “I use it on Car XXX and it works great!” If you follow up on these folks, you find that they have an economic incentive for their viewpoint. Usually, they are running one of the “fabulous offer” bilksites so prevalent in this area. (See previous post for examples.)
On the “true believer” sites, most everybody’s in love with the technology. Anybody who says something skeptical is hounded off the site; it’s as if that poor soul is Satan incarnate.
In either case, directly asking to see the worked-out example yields nothing positive. I’ve had everything from “You’re too far away” (likely, but not germane; I know where the airport is) to “I sold the car to my cousin.” Even “Well, really, it’s not MY car; it belongs to my wife’s uncle’s second cousin’s best friend” or some such.
In other words, these “working illustrations” are as scarce as confirmed UFO sightings.
To summarize: Nobody will show one to a skeptic; and those who claim great results often (always?) have an economic interest to push the product.
Okay, I thought, I’ll look elsewhere. What about patents and such? Patent applications have been filed. No working examples have been submitted, as near as I can find out. Here are some point about patents:
- Anybody can file a patent. On pretty much anything.
- Patent filing doesn’t guarantee a patent will be issued.
- Patents do not guarantee the system actually works.
- The USPTO requires a working example on anything they feel might fit in the category of “perpetual motion.”
After much digging and a few phone calls, no luck finding working systems.
In case you’re wondering: Yes, I believe these items to be “perpetual motion” attempts. I’ll have more to say on that next post, where I look at the physics and chemistry (thermodynamics) of HHO. Until then,
Seeya ‘Round the Ol’ (Virtual) HHO Museum…
